This is a major pit than many Reflexologists fall into – contraindicating a successful Reflexology business. When I ask Reflexology business owners who their ideal client is, how many times have I heard “Oh, I’m here for everybody.” It’s Reflexologists with this philosophy who always attempt to sell Reflexology. It just doesn’t work. The truth is, most people don’t care about Reflexology.
Sell people what they want. And,what’s that? Most people want to feel better. Match your service with what people want.
For example, let’s say you have had success with relieving back pain with some clients, then prepare an advertising campaign towards people who have back pain. Start with an attention grabber in a brochure - “Are you suffering from back pain?”
Then, state “I specialize in relieving back pain!”
Include a few testimonials from your clients.
Then advertise “Judy’s Reflexology services”
“Specializing in Relief of back pain.”
Always, always, did I say always – target your market. Be a specialist. You’ll make a difference in people’s lives and they will be your best ambassadors telling others how you helped.
This is a win-win situation. You help people, they tell others, you help your family by bringing home a good income.
Remember, for the most part people don’t care about Reflexology, they simply want to feel better. You impact their lives by helping them feel better and they will remember how they felt not what it’s called.
This is a fundamental step to success so overlooked by Reflexologists.
Always target your market. That is a bit of relief. Every time I mention Relexology like it was said most people don’t know or care what it is. They just think stinky feet. I could see myself working with single mom’s – yes. They so need healing and stress release. Unfortunately most single mom’s don’t have a decent income. I think a great way to target your marget is to start by giving 1st session free.
Hi Antoinette,
That’s good thinking. You are on the right track. Now take it a bit further and always remember that Reflexology is a profession and the source of great income. Target marketing and promotions are vital.

I find these tips for new reflexologists most interesting and intriguing, and I ask myself how you can determine your target. Back pain is one of the most popular and advertised ailment targetted by all massage therapists. Another would be stress release. How about hip problems? As a new foot reflexology practitioner I would have to invest many hours of research and practice into proving that, indeed, reflexology works.
I guess that would be my goal.
Hi Elzbieta,
Glad you found the posts interesting and intriguing.
Wow! That’s a very lofty goal – proving that Reflexology works. Complementary medicine for the most part relies on anecdotal evidence; not worthy of proof in medical terms. Notwithstanding that many lay people say the “proof is in the pudding” – when clients state they feel better and their life is improved then isn’t that what really counts?
Actually you’ll find there is quite a bit of research out there and you’ll find a lot on our webstie at http://www.universalreflex.com
I appreciate your comments.
