7. If your home office is in a basement that tends to get damp, do you need a de-humidifier?

8. Do you have a desk? Is it large enough to do office work?

9. Do you have enough storage space, such as a file cabinet, bookcase, credenza, closets, etc.?

10. Where you will store backup disks? Is the storage area safe from fire, flooding, etc.?

11. What office supplies you will need?

12. Do you already have a personal computer that you use at home? Will you need different software or to upgrade the RAM? Will others have to stop using it for personal purposes?

13. Do you need to have a modem installed on your home computer?

14. Are there sufficient phone jacks in the area you’ve designated for your home office?

15. Do you need separate fax, internet and business lines?

16. Do you have voice mail or an answering machine?

17. Do you have a smoke detector in your home office area?

18. Do you have a fire extinguisher near your home office?

19. You need a washroom with sink nearby.

20. Do you have a separate entrance?

Take a trip down to your local alternative book store and check out the brochures left there by the local healers. In my experience few if any address the wants and needs of the person they are trying to attract. So, the question is what do people really want? And, are Reflexologists selling it? And, the next question is “How financially successful are the Reflexologists who created these brochures?”

Well, let’s take a look at what I found in Ascendant Books on 124th Street in Edmonton. A place I used to shop in frequently. In fact, my Reflexology business students were sent there to pick up brochures and bring them back to class for discussion before they started creating their own brochures in the classroom.

Here’s what we found. Nearly all the holistic practitioners and body workers were selling there modality. Succinctly put, Reflexologists were selling Reflexology. And, guess what? The public weren’t buying it. Why not? They don’t really care about Reflexology so why would they pay for it?

Fact is, they care about themselves and want to buy stuff for themselves. So why aren’t Reflexologists following simply advertising rules that nearly all other financially successful businesses do – selling people what they want to buy?

The formula is so simple that it’s almost ridiculous not to figure it out. Yet, nearly 100% of the brochures we found were by Reflexologists and by most of their holistic colleagues selling what they do not how they can help you. Now some will argue that they do mention that on the next page. If you don’t mention what the prospective client wants boldly on the front page, the likelihood of them picking up the brochure and then turning the page is remote at best.

In fact, brochures are a fantastic source of drawing new clients to your Reflexology business providing the Reflexologist with what the Reflexologist wants, a person to help and more finances to create more brochures and help more people and create more money and so on.

Do you see how a proper brochure is a vital cog in your wheel of fortune providing you and your clients with a win – win relationship.

Jack Marriott is co-principal of the Universal College of Reflexology and bridges the gap between Reflexology and Business. Jack brings nearly a half-century of coaching, business experience, entrepreneurship and corporate background to help Reflexologists and other holistic practitioners become Financially successful.

Foot Reflexology

A question I am often asked is “Is it possible to earn a good living by working full-time as a Reflexologist?”

The short answer is “yes.” But, as with any therapy, it takes time to develop a practice so most people begin by working part-time and build up gradually. It is usually necessary to work flexible hours, often including evenings and weekends.

So let’s look at the numbers.

The Universal College of Reflexology conducted a study over several years with hundreds of responses on this very topic. Here are the results

UCR survey – Over 30% of people are willing to pay up to $75 or more for a Reflexology session

UCR survey – Nearly 8% of people are willing to pay up to $100 or more for a Reflexology session

Let’s take a really conservative approach. Most professionally certified Reflexologists are now charging between $50 and $75 per hour session. Let’s say the Reflexologist sees 2 clients in the mornings and 2 in the afternoons, that is 4 hours a day multiplied by $50 to $75 per hour = $200-$300 per day. For a five day week that is $1000 to $1500. After 4 weeks of annual vacation, and let’s say we lose another couple of weeks due to accumulated statutory holidays. That makes it 52 weeks a year less 6 weeks off equals 46 weeks a year that the Reflexologist is working. We now multiply $1000 per week by 46 weeks = $46,000 at the low end. Then we mulitply $1500 per week by 46 weeks – $69,000.

So to summarize, Professional Reflexologists working part time – that’s 4 hours per day, 5 days per week, equals 20 hours per week, can easily earn between $46,000 and $69,000 per annum.

Now, that’s an excellent income for only seeing 4 clients a day and taking 6 weeks off per year.

Are you ready for a rewarding career as a Professional Reflexology Practitioner? http://budurl.com/learnreflex

It’s not unusual, in fact it’s actually very common for Reflexologists and other practitioners of the healing arts and sciences to find difficulties achieving financial success. Why is this so common in the healing industry? I believe at its core is the state of mind of the practitioner.

Nearly everybody who enters the realm of healing possesses an underlying desire to help other people. Without this desire there would be few if any Reflexologists in our world. And, here and in itself is the suspected root cause for business failure amongst the fraternity of Reflexologists. There is a prevalent internal belief that if we can help other people than we are driven to do so. However, to then charge these same people a fee to offer help contradicts this prevailing internal belief system.

While coaching and teaching Reflexologists over the past 17 years I’ve discovered that the inherent belief of staying true to the principles of healing and service to others is so strong that for many it over-rides achieving financial success as a business person. Often those who choose a career in the health care field don’t like the business facets at all and thus don’t take the time to learn the rules for success and may even rebel against them. Unfortunately, this common attitude rarely leads to financial success.

Reflexologists and other self-employed health care professionals who live by this altruistic philosophy place themselves in such a vulnerable position that the demise of their Holistic business may become a reality.

Bottom line – they are no longer able to help so many other people due to the failure of their business.

Anyone over the age of 18 is eligible to learn Reflexology.

We’ve learned in our 20 years of teaching Professional Reflexology that a common thread that nearly all of our students have is a strong desire to help other people. I believe this goes beyond desire, so much so that it seems ingrained in their personality as though it is tattooed in their DNA.

In fact, this is where balance is absolutely needed for Reflexologists and other holistic professionals. Often health care workers fail at their business because the energy they put into helping others supercedes the energy they invest in themselves. As this energy flows out the practitioner loses balance and eventually runs out of steam.

We, at the Universal College of Reflexology provide our students with the Reflexology coaching necessary to succeed both in terms of attending to clients and maintaining personal and financial health for themselves.

Isn’t it time you invested in yourself?

4. Having business mentors/coaches to keep you focused and on track

Some Reflexologists find it a lonely profession. If you choose to work out of your home and not in a spa, clinic or other professional office, you might not get the opportunity to talk shop or meet at the water cooler or have tea with your colleagues, as most do in nearly all other professions.

It’s important you find the time to spend time with people who are successful.

You see, you become like your tribe. Do you invest your precious time with people that are uplifting and positive or do you spend time with people that whinge and moan about life. As a Reflexologist it’s important that you invest both your time and your money in being coached and mentored. Some successful professionals even say that this is the key to their success and growth over the years.

Coaching and mentoring will provide you with a completely different view allowing you to explore and expand into becoming all of who you were meant to be.

3. Do you want help to work on your own personal/spiritual development to resolve your own issues?

Are you the kind of Reflexologist who is controlled internally by a subconscious need to stay in your own comfort zone rather than challenging yourself?

If so, you will always find a justification to keep yourself held back. Lately it’s been the “ecomony”, or “recession”, others are ”family needs”, prefer to work “part time”, and on and on and on. The hard truth is it’s always you and solely you that is responsible for your economic circumstances.

You need to stop yourself from burning out energetically which keeps you exhausted and at a low vibration and focus on keeping your energy high. This means doing your own spiritual practice on a daily basis so you emit a potent and attractive energetic force.

It’s also important you actively clear unresolved issues and beliefs around money and eagerly study, research and develop the mindset of entrepreneurs that you admire and would like to copy.

Study them and replicate what they do and you will have similar success.

2. Are you a very good healer but need help with business/marketing skills?

You may have heard the saying ‘work on your business – not in your business’. What this means is rather than doing everything yourself you set up business systems and procedures and train people to follow those systems in your business. It truly is a false economy to think you can do everything yourself – and this will be the ceiling on your business if you harbour this limiting belief. As the business owner – and yes, if you are taking money for your services you are running a business – you need to look at ways to leverage yourself.

This means, you do the work once – train someone or develop some marketing – and get paid for it indefinitely. It’s also important that you learn how to develop a marketing system that delivers clients to you without having to worry about whether the phone is going to ring every day.

The first step is going from being a generalist in your healing field to being a specialist in a particular area. This will mean you can focus your marketing on reaching people with the problem you solve. Do you specialize in your services – working with moms, seniors, children, back pain, athletes, women’s issues, and so on?

You will then be able to make intelligent decisions about the best medium (display ads, online ads, etc) to use to reach your clients and the best approach to take in your ads to connect with this target market.

There are many reasons people in the health and wellness industry do not have the abundance they would like. Each day I will cover one of these reasons in this 5 part series.

1. Do you hold a subconscious belief that being wealthy is not being spiritual?

This is perhaps the most common reason Reflexologists, Massage Therapists, Reiki practitioners and any number of Holistic practitioners find themselves struggling to earn a decent living whilst courageously helping others in their time of need. It’s been explained in several ways by a lot of marketing experts. So here is a new twist on this age-old problem. Many people in our industry have – at some level – harbour a belief that being wealthy is not spiritual. You may think that you have dealt with your abundance issues but have you really? Or are you still attracting scarcity and lack of abundance?

A good way to determine this is by asking yourself:

“Do I give out far more energetically than I allow myself to receive financially, spiritually and emotionally?”

You may feel a strong need to serve others rather than creating a successful business that serves you with abundant income.

This will manifest itself in stopping you charging what you’re worth, which while it might seem like the ‘nice’ thing to do at the time will ultimately lead to resentment, sickness and even ill health.
