Ever notice that what’s bad for you one day is really good for you another day and vice versa? Take coffee and tea for instance.
Breaking news today is that if you drink coffee and tea, and they mean lots of it every day you may be saving yourself from Diabetes. By the way did you know that Diabetes type II is already an epidemic here in North America. In fact according to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Canada, today nearly one in four Canadians either has diabetes or prediabetes and it’s no wonder the cost of Diabetes is unpleasantly referred to as an “Economic Tsunami”.
In fact, we’ve been advised by some of our native Reflexology students and clients that as many as 75% of first nations members in some areas are diabetic!
So, the fact that 18 scientific studies have found that drinking three to four cups of coffee per day was associated with a 25 percent lower risk of diabetes than drinking two cups or less per day needs to get out to the public.
There were similar results for decaf coffee and tea.
For us tea drinkers seven studies also looked at the association between tea and diabetes risk. Again, pooled summaries showed that patients who drank more than three to four cups of tea per day had about a 20 percent lower risk of diabetes than those who drank no tea.
No word on putting sugar in your drink from this study. My take is minimize or eliminate sugar and synthetic sweeteners from your cup of joe!
Dear Jack:
It piqued my interest that you questioned whether sugar was added to the tea/coffee used in these studies. Anyone with a modicum of health sense knows that white sugar is a waste product, i.e. has been stripped of all its nutrients. What is of more concern to me is the addition (or not, they never tell you specifically) of MILK to the tea/coffee. Anyone who has ever studied the work of Edgar Cayce (considered by many to be the “Father of Holistic Medicine”), will know that he says that coffee with milk becomes “dross” in the system, and repeatedly advises against it.
Dear Mariette,
Given that the research of this article was based on the effects of coffee on diabetes. Sugar consumpiton is on point as this sweetener is frequently added to coffee (“Double Double” is the number one beverage order at Time Horton’s) sugar is a toxic poison, a known causal agent of diabetes and a known killer of diabetics.
Jack
Surely everyone KNOWS that white sugar is not only a waste product it has also been called a “sweet poison!”
Edgar Cayce was known as the sleeping prophet. All his information was channeled. He was not even awake when he “channeled” the information, and had to be told what he said when he woke up! Edgar Cayce certainly gave some very great information, but he was only the messenger of information from a “higher source”. He was not the originator of the content he channeled. So to call Edgar Cayce himelf the “Father of Holistic Medicine” is quite inaccurate.
The American Holistic Medical Association gave the title of “Father of Holistic Medicine” to Evarts G. Loomis MD. He was a homeopathic physician, surgeon, author, lecturer, and visionary. He founded Meadowlark, America’s first holistic medical retreat in 1958.
I agree with Jack’s very good advice to avoid sugar and sweetners in your coffee or tea for that matter.
Love your blog Jack, thank you for all your great information.
Hi Jo,
Thanks for bringing Evarts G. Loomis MD into the picture. Yes, he certainly was considered the leader in the holistic movement and he was known as both the Father and Grandfather of Holistic medicine. His magnificent holistic medical retreat called Meadowlark in Los Angeles was the foundation for the holistic movement of today. I believe I read somewhere that he was Canadian.
I am really happy that you love my blog. That makes my day.
Thanks, Jack
