Nearly 100 million Boomers desire wellness, aggressively disregarding authority and conformity.
Boomers do not wish to “grow old gracefully” rather they are seeking ways to hold on to their youth through Reflexology and other forms of complementary medicine.
A new study shows that Baby Boomers Look To Alternative Medicine In Record Numbers. Journal of Health and Social Behavior.
Many boomers demand Reflexology and alternative medicine options because of their frustration with the limitations of mainstream medicine. The most telling evidence of Americans’ dissatisfaction with traditional health care is the more than $27 billion they spend annually on alternative and complementary medicine, according to government estimates.
Boomers realize that a lot of prescription medications cause low libido, depression, skin disorders and a host of other unpleasant side effects including major health risks or even death.
Consider the July 26, 2000, issue of JAMA reported that medical and pharmaceutical errors had become the third leading cause of death in America!
Yet another positive sign that change is on the horizon. Seventy-one percent of people over the age of 50 are opting for alternative and complementary medicine. The U.S. population is finally starting to realize that the conventional medical system is a sinking ship.
What a shock to hear that medical and pharmaceutical errors are the third leading cause of death in America! This cetainly isn’t the kind of news that you hear through the general media today. It seems things like this are kept pretty hush-hush, in attempt to keep it from common knowledge. It’s no wonder that people are begining to take responsibility for their own health and turning to complimentary and alternative medicine.
Just another reason why Reflexology is gaining in popularity.
Hi Miekie,
It’s called Iatrogenic illness and many say it is severely under-reported. Calgary hospitals were in the news a few years ago with wrong medicines applied with disastrous results.
Jack
I am not surprised so many people have died due to medications. The elderly are so over medicated and on so many different drugs, I don’t know how they stand.
Baby Boomers, Baby Boomers Sish Boom Bah! That is my cheer. They are like you said the free thinkers, the nonconformists. I am riding on the Boomers coat tails being born in 65. Good place to be. They are established and know who they are and what they want.
In Naramata next town over from where I live there is going to be a big 32nd Annual Spring Festival of Awareness between April 23-25. There are over 50 workshops like Follow Your Heart, Universal Dance of Peace, How to Create a Successful Passionate Business, Return of the Ancestors and Wisdom Keepers, , Sing and Colour You Healthy, Kundalini yoga – I would actually like to attend the Kundalini, probably won’t but that is ok. Many more seminars. My point is this – I bet a good number of the people attending are Baby Boomers. The teacher’s are also Baby Boomers and younger and it is open to all ages. Interestingly there are no reflexology sessions. However one women teaching the Flower Essences and Raw Food Living is a reflexologist trained Internally. Her motto “Educating instead of medicating is my way of life. Thanks Jack for bringing this to my attention. I knew this but needed to hear it articulated.
Hi Antoinette,
Yeah, gotta love them Baby Boomers!
Thanks for the comments.
Jack
